Itsu –
a game with japaneese

Surprising and inspiring poems which motivate discussion an dialogue are developed by playful and creative combinations of various Japanese characters.

In the first semester we had to design a game that should not only animate to play but also to represent an aesthetic entity whilst not in motion. The central task was design involving polarities.

The number of turns is determined by a throw of the red multi-sided die. Turning a gamepiece from one side to any of the five adjacent sides counts as a move. The sides of the various gamepieces that face up display a series of five Japanese characters which tell a story.

The aim of the game is the exposure to Japanese characters. At the same time an enhancement of the understanding of a culture, so different to Europeans, had to be achieved.
